To prepare and maintain European Standards in the field of fixed and variable resistors and networks for use in electronic equipment. These standards are for use within a suitable system for quality assessment of electronic components, and aim to support the trading activities of European component users and manufacturers.

Close liaison is maintained with IEC/TC 40, which includes parallel voting on similar documents where possible and enable IEC documents to be adopted in Europe. Co-operation is also maintained with other relevant IEC Technical Committees, such as TC 91 and TC 104, where such co-operation will promote the convergence of the two systems.
