CENELEC activities around e-Accessibility: 

On 25 February 2004 the following event took place in Brussels where CENELEC sent a speaker in the context of "TV for All" : European conference on Access to the Information Society for deaf and hard of hearing people.  Further information can be found at http://www.ictrnid.org.uk/euc/index.html.

Following the conference on "TV for All" held in Barcelona on 28 October 2003, the Interim Report published in July 2003 was discussed in order to prepare a Final Report planned for November 2003.  The Final report is now available since 15th November 2003.  It is mainly comprised of recommendations on Media Access which, through standardization, could be applicable to Regulatory bodies, broadcasters and service providers. In the meantime, we invite any interested parties to join the virtual group and contribute to the ongoing work. See below for details of the Barcelona conference on 28 October 2003.

Annual General Meeting of European Federation of Hard of Hearing People (EFHOH), held in Graz on 25-27 April 2003 (German version of the report. The conference holders were German and the majority of the proceedings were in that language)

Open meeting on standardization and interoperability in digital interactive television services, held in Brussels on 12 March 2003

In reference to the conference in Nice, Cenelec was represented by their consultant, Mr Gerry Stallard, Media Access Consultant and Expert to CENELEC’s “TV For All Virtual Group”. The presentation of "TV for All" in power point presentation is available.


CENELEC website is "W3C: Web Accessibility Initiative" compliant.  This indicates a claim of Level A conformance to the W3C Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines 1.0.

The European Association for the Coordination of Consumer Representation in Standardization (ANEC), also called the "European consumer voice in standardization" attaches particular importance to ICT.  Design for All is one of the priority of ANEC, its means designing mainstream products and services so that as many people as possible can use them easily whatever their age and ability.
ANEC has published in June 2003 a Policy Statement on Design for All based on CEN/CENELEC Guide 6
