The CENELEC Strategy 2010-2013 presents the organization’s global perspective on its role and expected achievements by 2013. The strategy therefore relies on the analysis of current societal, political and economic developments and on the foresight of the challenges ahead with the aim to maintain the organisation’s relevance, and to preserve and reinforce its added value. It is the outcome of a consultation process with the membership, industry representatives, societal partners and other relevant stakeholders. The Strategy 2010 – 2013 and its implementation plan were approved at the CENELEC 49th General Assembly in Madrid on 30 June 2009.
In facing the numerous societal changes and economic shifts that Europe has undergone over the last few years, the consolidation of Europe’s cohesion and its internal market along with the improvement of citizen’s welfare remain key drivers of the European electrotechnical standardization strategy. Knowledge and innovation are key contributors to growth. Standardization represents one of the most important and valuable sources of high-quality information, which in most cases is linked to additional know-how and knowledge. Therefore, standardization plays a significant role in ensuring and fostering growth. Moreover, the interdependence of countries and regions triggered by the globalised economy brings the need for global solutions to complement the regional achievements and guarantee their sustainability. European electrotechnical standardization thus shall continue to aim at removing trade barriers and opening up markets while securing its global reach through its strategy.
CENELEC’s new strategy is an attempt to address the recent and the expected developments by taking into consideration the following factors:
- The political and legislative framework
- The market place
- The global context
- The societal aspects
